Tuba Gecgel
1993 , Istanbul
Tuba Geçgel (b. 1993, Istanbul) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice explores themes such as the human self, the relationship between humans and nature, genderlessness, and love. She adopts textile materials as fundamental elements in her work, drawing parallels between the fluidity, flexibility, and boundless nature of textiles and the complexity of human nature.
Through figurative and vibrant works, Geçgel creates fantastical environments that emphasize a sense of limitless possibility. By inviting viewers to engage with her works, she seeks to transform them from passive observers into active participants and integral elements of the artistic experience.
More recently, Geçgel has begun translating her drawings into wall tapestries using the hand-tufting technique. By combining this traditional method with a contemporary artistic approach, she moves between past and future, drawing inspiration from the slowing down of time and the meditative nature of the process. Her works reflect her distinctive artistic vision and personal artistic touch.
